Muhanga Station is located in the Southern Province, Muhanga District, Muhanga Sector, in Nganzo Cell. The station covers Muhanga District, Kamonyi District, and Ruhango District.
Muhanga Station implements a range of research and extension activities through programmes focused on monogastric animals, root and tuber crops (cassava), and banana production. Key activities include pig and poultry genetic improvement, feed development using locally available resources, cassava variety improvement, Early Generation Seed (EGS) production, banana rehabilitation, and management of Banana Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW).
The station also engages in seed production and multiplication for various crops, ruminant seed production, and natural resource management through irrigation technologies. Its activities are conducted across the three districts it serves and at two operational sites: Muhanga and Mututu, located in Nyanza District.
