GISHWATI STATION
Gishwati Station is located in the Western Province, Nyabihu District, Mulinga Sector, in Gakamba Cell. The station operates two sites: Gatindori, covering 203 hectares dedicated mainly to cattle livestock, and PNAP, covering 100 hectares used for potato seed production and livestock activities.
Gishwati Station supports the mission of the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) through agricultural and livestock research and extension services aimed at improving productivity and efficiency. The station coordinates agricultural and livestock activities in Nyabihu District and Ngororero District in collaboration with local authorities.
Key programmes implemented by the station include the Crop Intensification Programme, post-harvest handling, land husbandry and integrated soil fertility management, cash crop development, livestock development, small-scale irrigation, and horticulture.
The station also provides a range of services, including potato seed distribution, agricultural extension services, farmer training on post-harvest handling, soil erosion control, kitchen gardens, fertiliser and seed use, and support to agro-dealers and seed multipliers. In animal resources, the station offers livestock production and extension services, veterinary services, artificial insemination, hydroponic fodder technology, dairy value chain support, and technical assistance in livestock farming.
