NGOMA STATION

Eastern Province, Ngoma District, Kibungo Sector, Administratively.

Ngoma Station covers 3 Districts namely Kayonza, Ngoma, and Kirehe.

 

Ngoma Station is located in the Eastern Province, Ngoma District, Kibungo Sector. Administratively, Ngoma Station covers three districts, namely Kayonza District, Ngoma District, and Kirehe District.

The station was established in 1989 and initially operated as a satellite station to Karama Station to strengthen the regional banana programme.

The main programmes operating at the station include cereals (rice and maize), pulses and oil crops (soybean and beans), horticulture (mango), root and tuber crops (cassava), integrated soil fertility management, irrigation and mechanization, aquaculture and fisheries, ruminant production and veterinary services, as well as banana and coffee programmes.

The station carries out its activities across five sites, namely Gahororo and Kibungo in Ngoma District, and Rukira and Mahama in Kirehe District.

Ngoma Station also manages 300 hectares used as a quarantine post in Kayonza District, as well as another 97 hectares of natural forest and savanna known as Ibandamakera, located in Mpanga Sector.
