Horticulture Program
The Horticulture Program is mandated to develop, adapt, and disseminate appropriate technologies that enhance the productivity, quality, and sustainability of horticultural crops in Rwanda. The program aims to improve food and nutrition security, increase household incomes, and diversify economic opportunities through the introduction, evaluation, and distribution of improved horticultural crop varieties and innovative production technologies.
The program promotes collaborative research and technology transfer involving researchers, farmers, extension agents, private sector actors, and development partners to strengthen the horticulture value chain and support market-oriented production systems.
Horticulture Centre of Excellence
The Horticulture Centre of Excellence, established at Mulindi in the City of Kigali through cooperation between Rwanda and Israel, aims to strengthen the technical capacity and practical skills of Rwandan researchers, extension agents, smallholder farmers, and commercial farmers.
The centre serves as a platform for technology transfer, innovation, and hands-on training in modern horticultural production practices, irrigation technologies, greenhouse management, post-harvest handling, and agribusiness development. It also supports knowledge sharing and promotes the adoption of advanced horticultural technologies to improve productivity, quality, and competitiveness of Rwanda’s horticulture sector.
