Mission of the Department of LII&TT
The mission of the Department of Land Husbandry and Irrigation Innovation and Technology Transfer(LII&TT) in the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) is to develop modern agriculture through soil and water resources management. The Department is coordinated through four (4) programs:
Irrigation program;
Integrated Soil Fertility Management Program (ISFM);
Analytical Laboratory (Water, Soil, Plant) Program;
Farm power technology Program.
General Objectives
The overall objective is to improve crop productivity through sustainable modern irrigation and mechanization technologies and management of available land and soil conservation.
Specific Objectives:
To increase area under irrigation and mechanization;
To protect hillsides and wetlands against soil erosion and floods;
To restore the Soil fertility.
Department Programs
Farm power technology Program

The mandate of the Farm Power Technology Program is to promote and enhance agricultural mechanization in Rwanda through the provision, development, supervision, and promotion of appropriate farm machinery, technologies, and mechanization services…
Soil and plant analytical laboratory

The mandate of the Soil and Plant Analytical Laboratory is to provide reliable analytical services and scientific information on soil, water, plant, forage, manure, and lime quality in order to support sustainable agricultural production, soil fertility management, environmental protection, and evidence-based agricultural research and decision-making….
Integrated Soil Fertility Management

The mandate of the Integrated Soil Fertility Management Program is to improve soil health, soil productivity, and sustainable agricultural production through the development, promotion, and transfer of soil fertility management technologies, innovations, and best practices…..
Irrigation Program

This program aims at increasing agricultural productivity for poverty reduction which is achieved through turning irrigation potential into irrigated land, facilitating farmers to exploit land regardless of unreliable rain seasons. In Rwanda irrigation practices comprises of pressurized, surface (gravity) irrigation, and small scale irrigation technologies…..
