Integrated Soil Fertility Management
Integrated Soil Fertility Management has implemented a number of activities through Government support, external projects grant aiming at improving agriculture productivity through generation of technologies, innovations and management practices in the field of soil sciences and fertility management. The program has also implemented activities related to the transfer of technologies to end users mostly focusing on soil erosion control practices and demonstration plots on management of soil acidity problem.
The main activities implemented includes construction of radical and progressive terraces, improve estimates of lime requirements based on soil parameters combined with crop response functions to different lime rates, analysis of the lime value chain and adoption of acid soil management technologies, improving wheat yield and productivity through the use of major nutrient and diagnostic micronutrients, effect of micronutrient rates and sources on the performance of rice, maize and wheat crops, development of fertilizer and lime recommendations, development of soil nutrient maps, assessment of erosion occurrence and soil erosion control systems, building Functional and interactive National Soil Information System, and capacity building.
