Veternary Services
The Veterinary Services department plays a vital role in promoting animal health, public safety, and sustainable livestock development through a wide range of professional services and laboratory-based interventions. The department is responsible for issuing veterinary import, export, and transit permits to ensure compliance with national and international animal health regulations, while also overseeing vaccine distribution and quality control to guarantee the effectiveness and safety of veterinary vaccines across the country. In addition, the department conducts public health inspections and implements disease control and vaccination programs aimed at preventing and managing animal diseases, protecting livestock productivity, and safeguarding public health.
The National Veterinary Diagnosis Laboratory provides advanced diagnostic and research services through specialized units including Entomology and Protozoology, Serology, Helminthology, Bacteriology, Virology, and Pathology. These laboratories support accurate disease detection, surveillance, and scientific analysis, enabling timely response to animal health challenges. To strengthen service delivery and accessibility across the country, satellite veterinary laboratories are strategically located in Nyagatare, Ngoma, Huye, and Rubavu, ensuring effective regional diagnostic support and improved veterinary service outreach.
